My Life in Five Years

In five years, I would live a successful campus life. I’m 20, and freshman now, so I think I will be in Korea University then also. First, I would study well here and prepare to go to the Anam campus, International department. It would be very hard but I’ll try. I plan that I go to the military service after junior, I will go as a worker not a soldier, so I have much time to study. I’d like to study Japanese and I want to learn guitar and piano. That time will be an another chance for me.

The short time plans for this summer vacation are listening to the summer lecture, getting a driver lisence, going to the beaches in Pusan, doing the part time job in the dormitory. It would be a very busy summer.

I’m a sportsholic. In five years, I would like to see all the sports event.  I would save my money for the South Africa world cup in 2010. Also, I would like to travel for seeing those sports such as watching the game of Manchester United, the final game of NBA in staples center.

Financially, I want to get a part time job at the vacation, and I will get a scholar ship. I would live in the dormitory, going to Seoul only for study. Personally, I want to be much taller, and lose some weight. I want to be a outgoing person also. It wouldn’t change from much now but at least I will live an active life.

Three Things I Would Like to Learn

The current issue that I concern about - The demonstration and suppression

2008 is a very special year for Korea. New president and new government were elected and there is a big trade deal with the United States, the FTA. I would rather talk about the demonstration and government’s reaction to this rather than talking about the controversies. When the government announced that Korea will import American beef, people started to worry because some American beef was potentially infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease. Because of the government’s strict position that we will import those cows, people started to gather to protest. As time went by, the demonstrations got much bigger. Many people gathered with candles and made some speeches to the government. The police started to clampdown on the demonstrators, trying to dismiss the crowd. this is, of course, nonsence because in 2002, there was also a big demonstration opposing the American army, the government said that it was Ok, but this time, it’s a demonstration opposing to the government, so they say it’s illegal. As the demonstration continues, the crackdown became violent. The police used water canons to regulate people. Some people got hurt, and there was a rumor that a high school girl got blinded by the water canons. There is also a flim of a girl was kicked in the head by the police.

Some people say that this demonstration and suppressing is like 70’s and 80’s situation of Korea. I think that many demonstrators nowadays go to demonstrations not for reject importing American cows but to pull down Mr. Lee’s government. People should be more rational. It’s same for the police. They are exist to protect the people, not for themselves. The first thing they have to consider is their safety and other people’s convenience. The politicians also has to consider people’s opinion and find a new solution. If the government, demonstrators and the police take a one step forward to each other, this can be a chance not a crisis.

Park Jung Hee - the most influential person in Korean modern history

Many people may not agree that he was not the best president in Korea history, but everyone will agree that he is the most influential president in Korean history. He was born in Gumi, Korea which is located in Kyung Sang Krovince. It is my mother’s hometown, so I have been to his house.

During Japanese rule, he served in the Japanese army at that period. It is a very big nonsense that Korean President once was the army to attack Korean. He didn’t caught any Korean independence army, but it must be blamed. Also, he used to be a communist. His brother was a communist, so his past is very questionable.

He organized a military coup on may 16, 1961. Then he became the president of Korea, saying that he has to control Korea because of tis unstable political conditon of Korea between North Korea. He revised Korean Law three times to be a President. The reason why he is very controversal is beacuse he initiated some magnificent results. Korea’s facility like Posco made a lot in his reign. He made a five year plan for developing economy. As well, Korean army paticipated in the Vietnam war, so we received a lot of American support.

He was assassinated on october 26, 1979 by Kim Jae-kyu, a close follower of his. He said that Park Jung-hee was a obstacle to democracy in Korea. This inspired a movie made in 2005, named 그때 그사람들. Park Jung-hee is very special because he was the first soldier president. After him, many dictators appeared, so many people blame him. But in some other aspects, he is admired by someone because of his charisma. We cannot say Korean modern history without mentioning him.

A short review of The Terminal

This movie is set in JFK Airport in New York. It is based on a true story, but some facts are changed.  The real man’s nationality is Iranian, and it actually occured in France. But the character in the movie is from the fictional country of Krakozhia. The main story is about a man, named Viktor Navorski, who came to New-York but when a war suddenly broke out in his country. His nation suddenly dissappeared. The U.S rejected his entrance. As time goes by, he gets used to the life in airport and finally he finds a beautiful flight attendent and they fall in love. I saw it on tv, last weekend. The movie can be a little bit old-fashioned, but the actors were great and it was a very touching movie.

The vacation I took

Actually it was not a trip for enjoy, it was a vacation for volunteer work. Three years ago I went to the phillippines with twenty other student. We went to the countryside school. There, we clean and repair the school. Also, I stayed in the native person’s house. I was very moved by their kindness and the optimistic mind of them. Even though they are in poverty, they always laugh and always kind to us.

This friday, tommorow I have a promise to meet friend who went there together. They are really great and they have a caring mind. We live in the different distract so we can’t see each other well. But we are still close. We are going to go abroad for volunteer work again next year. Some people say it’s very stupid to do those volunteer work in foreign country because we can see people in need in our country also. But for me, that memory was facinating and I won’t forget it forever.

Something that makes me happy

I love basketball. I love playing basketball but I love watching basketball also. I play basketball every tuesday and thursday at my club, and it makes me tired but also happy. I’ve watching basketball since I was a kindergarten baby. That time the game between Yeonsei and Korea university was very popular. As the Korean basketball became a professional, I loved basketball even more.

But the time that I saw NBA, and I know Michael Jordan, I fell in love with NBA. The moves were far greater than Korean player, and I loved their apperance, something like tatoos, hair or shoes. If someone ask me who is your favorite player I would pick Allen Iverson. As you can see the name of my homepage’s, he is my hero. In 2001, philadelphia goes to the final. That was the peak of  Sixers and my affection to NBA.

Nowadays, I still watch those NBA games, but I don’t support any team or player. The first part of the playoff is about to finish, I want New Orleans to win because they show very facinating games. I hope to see the NBA final someday, siting at the sidecourt which is about 8000 dollars(!).

How to make the perfect single serving of ramyeon

Ramyeon is one of the most common snack in Korea. There are several ways to make it.

My way is one of the easiest way and it doesn’t need many utensils and ingredients.

You only need ramyeon, chopsticks and hot water. That’s all.

For me, I would prefer Sin ramyeon. For man who went to military service will remember this kind of Ramyeon.

It’s name of this ramyeon is a plastic bag ramyeon, because the plastic bag of ramyeon itself would be a plate of ramyeon.

After you unpack the ramyeon, you have your mix and dried vegetable. Put the vegetable first, then you put the mix in, but don’t forget to put it just half of them.

Because, it can be too salty and spice. Then put the hot water in, just until to the noodles would be sunk.

After five minutes, you can eat delicious and convinient ramyeon. You should watch out the hot ingredient though.

If noodles are good, serve it.

About the election

I live in You-sung Gu, Daejeon.

There were six candidates.

His name is Jung Byung-wok. He is in the united Minju party. As Daejon is famous for its technological facility, he said that scientist will be well treated.

His name is Song Byoung-dae. He is in Hannara party. He graduated Seoul national university. His commitment is reducing taxes, and giving an annuity after 65 years old.

His name is Lee Sang-min. He won last and this election. I saw him three times. He is a lawyer and he is in Liberty Sunjin party. His commitment is specilizing science foundation.

His name is Jo Young-jae. He was a congress man. He also gradutated Seoul university. He is in the party which support Park Gun-hae.

I didn’t vote because I’m underage. After my bithday, I can vote. I would not voted even though I got right to vote. Because it is, I feel a little bit far from the politics, I’m not familiar with it, and I don’t want to be related to it. Because it feel a little bit dirty and full of conspiracy.

But I think we should have a break in election day, because even though we have a break, the voting rate is so low. What happened if there is no break at that day? I would have more interest in the politics and vote later. Because it’s our right.

What is your perfect day?

I’ll stay in some exotic island like Guam or Hawaii.

As I wake up, I have a toast, cereal and bacon. And then I play basketball with my friends.

We have a fun game, not that tough. After the exercise I go to the beach.

I lie in the hammock and have a cup of cold coconut drink and eat some pineapples.

And I will surf the facific ocean.

Then, I take a nap with the sweet music. After a nap, I rode the zet-ski.

I hang out with my beautiful girlfriend there. We talk a lot and get some fun while eating

ice-cream. After a sunset, I bring my friends for barbecue party. We drink and chat each other and

giggle. And then I came back to my home and read some books and then sleep.
